How AI influences Contunity software development
Contunity uses Machine Learning, Reinforcement Learning and Supervised Learning for converting the input parameters into actual hardware designs for electronics.
With the increasing use of AI, more and more start-ups are focusing on innovative ideas that will bring technology development to the next level. Contunity found a unique way to apply Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the field of automating electronics engineering, we call it augmented model-based hardware development. We were thrilled to attend the appliedAI Meetup held at the Munich Google Office on the 5th of April 2019. To drive forward real-word applications of AI, the appliedAI Initiative together with Google organized that meetup to bring together a local community of start-ups, researchers and corporates discussing latest developments in AI. Contunity was part of this event in the Startup exhibition among others like Statice, Deevio, Geospin and Gini.
The appliedAI initiative is part of the UnternehmerTUM ecosystem. UnternehmerTUM, one of the largest non-profit innovation and entrepreneurship centers in Europe, joined forces with leading public sector, industry and tech players with the appliedAI initiative.
One can say that artificial intelligence is a term that inspires both excitement and confusion in people’s minds. Nowadays AI is an important part of our lives, it can be seen in many every day products from intelligent personal assistants in smartphones, driverless cars and special purpose robots for emailing, navigation, web search and social media or even in some of the fields like marketing and HR.
Artificial intelligence makes it possible for machines to learn from experience, adjust to new inputs and perform human-like tasks. Currently it enables Contunity to integrate information more effectively, analyze data, and use the resulting insights to improve decision-making for our automated electronics engineering. Most AI examples that we hear about today rely heavily on deep learning and natural language processing. Using these technologies, computers can be trained to accomplish specific tasks by processing large amounts of data and recognizing patterns in that data. That is also an important use-case of AI for Contunity. In order to improve our automation algorithms, there are a lot of design rules to be taken into consideration. This means there is a huge solution space of different configurations that need to be analyzed. These analyses heavily influence the output quality and computational effort of our model-based design algorithms. Contunity uses Machine Learning, Reinforcement Learning and Supervised Learning to estimate those needed configurations and other parameters for converting the input specification of our customers into actual hardware designs for electronics.
We will see many more news and inventions in the AI domain in 2019, the world is changing rapidly, and a new era of technology is arising.

Raising a 6 digit amount in funding
Contunity GmbH have successfully raised a 6-digit amount from the investor and electronics industry expert Dr. Dieter Lederer.
The funds will be used to support us to further increase the team size and develop our product to the next level. The new investment will enable Contunity to further capitalize on its position as the first start-up with a software suite that automatically develops embedded source code, schematics and PCB layouts.
“I am very happy to have Dr. Lederer onboard to drive our technology to the next step. With the raised amount we plan on increasing the capabilities of our software and perform pilot project to validate our technology. Through this we get one step closer to full automation of embedded systems development”, said Contunity CEO Tobias Pohl.
Contunity is a freshly founded tech startup from Munich, owned by Tobias Pohl, Alexander Pohl and André Alcalde.
Contunity creates an online software solution for automating and simplifying the engineering of embedded systems. “We envision a world where everyone could build electronics easily”, said Contunity CTO Alexander Pohl. Through automation and artificial intelligence this online platform radically reduces know-how barriers. With this technology more people and companies can take part in the complex developing process of electronics. Contunity software automatically generates schematics, PCB-layouts, Bill of Materials and Embedded Source Code.
Our investor, Dr. Dieter Lederer, has over 15 years of experience in international management consulting, in 250 projects within the electronics and embedded systems industry. His mission is to help companies to advance effectively in times of rapid technological and social change and thus to be far above average successful. He will provide the team with his know-how and advice for quicker development of the company.

Great news: Contunity was awarded WECONOMY AWARD 2018!
The WECONOMY initiative is promoted by the renowned partners Handelsblatt, Wissensfabrik – Unternehmen für Deutschland e.V., and UnternehmerTUM. WECONOMY aims at fostering partnerships between start-ups and established market players. For start-ups partnerships to established corporates are of interest for several reasons: Gaining know-how from industry experts, cooperate in R&D projects, acquire pilot customers, build supplier relationships, and establish market credibility. Handelsblatt, Wissensfabrik and UnternehmerTUM are eager to enable such partnerships by fostering valuable industry/start-up collaborations.
Contunity team had the chance to spend a weekend talking with executives from Bosch, SAP, Vector, KPMG, BASF and many more about their technology to transform electronics development in the future.
Read more about it on the WECONOMY page.
